Chapter 5: Meeting the Challenger of Audience Diversity
Chapter fives gives readers great tips on how to adapt to a diverse audience. I truly believe that for any speech , it is important to acknowledge the audience, and formulate a well rounded idea on how to meet the needs of diverse backgrounds. Being aware of the culturally different experiences, ideas, beliefs, and opinions of the audience members will help gear the topic to be more supportive. In order to avoid ethnocentrism, speakers should be well aware of the differences within the audience members. Being accepting and coherent of the audience is vital in establishing a comfortable environment. Allowing audiences to feel at ease within the environment makes it easy to possibly make the audience more responsive. In making the speech accepting and supportive, the second most important information is being well aware of different types of information. It is vital that as speakers we try to incorporate all forms of information upon the topic and be accepting different points of views and experiences. In doing so we can establish a comfortable setting in which students can interact in constructive conversations.

Hi Penny B.... I totally agree with your blog because it is important that a speaker has an idea of who he or she will be discussing their speech in front of. It is commonly known for someone to feel disrespected or may become offended by certain things or sayings so you really do have to be careful. Having that idea of knowing who your gong to be talking to in some way may help ease away alot of tension speaker becasue it will allow them to have more time to think of how they will be able to keep the interest alive.
Hey there! I agree with what you talk about when it comes to audience diversity. I think that sometimes it can be hard for a person to stay away from being ethnocentric, because sometime people are just under informed about other people. And I really think you make a good point when you mention that making the audience feel comfortable will benefit your nerves as well as your overall speech. Being accepting of opposition and differences of opinion are so important because there are so many different ideas and beliefs out there. Allowing everyone to feel unthreatened and in an environment where they can truly express their opinions and thoughts will always present the best results.
